Ferdinand Küchler (1867-1937) was een Duits violist, componist en vioolpedagoog. Voor het vioolonderwijs schreef hij verschillende stukken voor viool met pianobegeleiding, zoals de concertino’s op.11, op. 12 en op. 15.

Het Concertino op. 12 is een 3-delig werk en zeer geschikt om het spel in de 1^e en 3^e positie te ontwikkelen.  Het 1^e deel is zowel krachtig als speels van karakter en bevat verschillende thema’s die elkaar snel opvolgen. Het 2^e deel is geschreven in een 3-delige liedvorm (A-B-A). Het A-gedeelte is zangerig van karakter, het B-gedeelte is meer dramatisch. Het 3^e deel staat in de Rondo-vorm (refrein en coupletten). Het refrein is vrolijk van aard en de coupletten en overgangen bieden afwisseling.

Oorspronkelijk is dit concertino voor viool en piano geschreven in de toonsoort D majeur. Nico Dezaire bewerkte het stuk voor altviool en piano, in de toonsoort G majeur.

The German violinist, composer and violin educator Ferdinand Küchler (1867-1937) wrote several educational pieces for violin with piano accompaniment, such as the concertinos op. 11, 12 and 15.

The Concertino op. 12 is a three-movement work that is ideal for the development of playing in first and third position. The first movement is both powerful and playful in character. The second movement has been written in a three-part song form (A-B-A). The A section has a cantabile atmosphere, whereas section B is more dramatic. The third movement is a rondo (with a refrain and episodes). The refrain is joyful in spirit, and the episodes present variation.

This concertino for violin and piano was originally written in the key of D major. Nico Dezaire arranged the piece for viola and piano, in the key of G major.
